Environmental cleanup will begin at the former Oak-Mitsui Technologies plant, Hoosick Falls
HOOSICK FALLS – Environmental cleanup will begin at the former Oak-Mitsui Technologies plant site at 80 First St., the state Department of Environmental Conservation announced Wednesday.
The work will be performed as a so-called Interim Remedial Measure under the state Superfund Program and the provisions of a consent order between Oak and the DEC, the agency said. The site has been a manufacturing location since the 19th century. Oak-Mitsui produced cooper foils at the location before shutting it in about 2014.
The work includes installing a two-foot thick cover system that consists of a drains, cover, a new storm sewer; a sloped area covering a retaining wall and former coal chutes, replacement of damaged fencing, repaving the former employee parking lot on the south side of First Street, retrofitting some wells for future use, and planting trees.
The work will allow for restricted-residential, commercial or industrial use, including use for active recreational activities, the DEC notice stated.
